Post 2: Net-Overworked
I’m so networked I feel net-overworked… with twitter, Ning, a blog, Gmail, all in one week it just seems like a lot since I hesitated for 2 years with Facebook. Mentioning this to friends who know how non-technology advanced I am are amazed and they ask why are you doing this? Well, I reason that it will help make contacts, connections and build resources in new ways. I am already overwhelmed in a good way at the resources I have found especially through Twitter. There are so many accessible resources for teaching art. Art is already a community in itself so taking it to blogging and social-networking just increases the layers of communication. One post I came across on a fellow art blogger’s page really had weight with things I’ve been thinking about since feeling net-overworked: “Think of the internet like an epic cocktail party, filled with chattering 24/7 conversations. Our goal shouldn’t be to ignore everything beyond earshot – that would inhibit our creativity, and keep us trapped in a very narrow world. Instead, we should keep on searching for those smart voices, so that we can remix the right data inside our head” (from Wired magazine). I especially like the part about not inhibiting our creativity.
On a more specific note: James Street North Supercrawl is this Saturday, check out some art in your own backyard, see more by clicking here:

It can be overwhelming, set reasonable goals for yourself. This is the way of not only education but the world. We are teaching students that are already immersed in many different technological areas. This is how many of them learn, and it is up to teachers to teach students in a way that they learn. I am also a newbie at tech, and found goal setting, adding one new program to my class a month, really helped my to not be stressed out!
